Turning The Corner??

Canucks make it 2 in a row by beating a streaking Flames team. Redskins and Patriots advance in the NFL Playoffs. Upset city in NCAA Basketball action. Anyways, let's roll...

Reborn in Vancouver

With their backs against the wall, a 3-1 deficit in the 3rd period, the Canucks dug deep and gave it all they had. Anson Carter tied the game 3-3 in the final minute of regulation, then Brendan Morrison buried the winner in OT to win 4-3. You must give credit when credit is due, and the Canucks tonight stepped it up a notch in the 3rd period, something we haven't seen in more than a month from this group. With the multitude of trade rumors (Brodeur and Theodore among the latest) to the chants of "Fire the Coach!!!", the Canucks badly needed this win to douse the flames that have had the team swirling in a media and fan frenzy calling on Nonis to make sweeping changes. In many ways, the Canucks battled tonight for their right to stay together, the right to keep their jobs. And for now, everyone should be safe for the most part. The team gets a much deserved break for the next couple of days before hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Hopefully we bring the momentum in to that game and get this train back on the tracks.

Pats Dominate, Skins Survive

The Redskins beat the Buccaneers 17-10
in the earlier of the 2 NFL playoff games today. Despite an anemic offense, the Skins managed to score 2 TDs on defensive turnovers which proved to be the difference. The Redskins are going to have to find their offense in a hurry as they go into Seattle next weekend to face the NFL's best offense. In the second game, the Patriots continue their Playoff dominance by blowing out the Jaguars 28-3 in New England. There was talk that perhaps the hobbled Byron Leftwich should not have started but it wouldn't have made a difference. This Patriots team is so well coached and prepared, there's no way they would've lost this one at home. So far, I'm 2-0 in the playoffs. Tomorrow the Panthers face the Giants and the Steelers square off against the Bengals.

Up is Down, Down is Up

Today is College Gameday in NCAA Basketball action and it was a bizzarre day as there were several upsets to report. Tubby Smith could only watch in shock and awe as Kansas crushed #19 Kentucky 73-46 in Smith's worst lost ever. In other upsets, Miami (FL) beat #14 Maryland, Nebraska edged #12 Oklahoma, Iowa rocked #6 Illinois, #25 UNC thumped #13 NC State, and finally Washington State upset #8 Washington. I'm sure the rankings will be taken upside down after a tumultuous Saturday. Bottom line is that Duke is #1 and will stay #1 throughout the season. I don't see anybody out there can matchup to the Blue Devils this year. A trip to the Final Four is almost guaranteed. JJ Reddick is the League MVP, nobody comes close.
