Wildcard Weekend Concludes

Spent most of the day running errands and watching the football. Slow news day locally but plenty of action around the Nation. Let's roll...

Giants Shoot Blanks, Bengals Ponder What If...

The Carolina Panthers executed their gameplan to perfection knocking out the NY Giants 23-0 today in NY. 2 reasons why the Giants were suppose to win proved false. Giants RB Tiki Barber was taken right out of the game early and ended up being a complete non-factor. The Panthers offense was suppose to be too one-dimensional with the passing game, but it was RB DeShaun Foster and RB Nick Goings that broke the Giants backs. In the end, it was clear that the Giants were the rookie team in the playoffs for the first time in a long time and the Panthers looked every bit the team that went to the Superbowl 3 years ago. Coaching and good preparation will always take a team farther than talent alone. In the 2nd game of the day, the Steelers took out Bengals QB Carson Palmer on his first offensive play of the day tearing his ACL. The Bengals never really figured into the end result after Palmer was out losing 31-17 to the Steelers. The Bengals can play "what ifs" all they want, bottom line is that they're out. So, my picks went 4-0 on NFL playoffs this weekend, let's hope next week is just as good.

Vinny Looks to Cash In

After that stunning win over USC last week at the Rose Bowl, Texas QB Vince Young formerly declares his eligibility for the upcoming NFL Draft. The annoucement isn't really the big news, it's where and how high he will be drafted. There are several permutations that could have Vince Young go anywhere from #1 to the Texans to a team trading up to pick him up. The Texans should really go for Reggie Bush as they already have a starting QB in David Carr. The New Orleans Saints desparately need a QB as Aaron Brooks has played his way out of New Orleans. But with so much turmoil surrounding that team, it's possible Young may play hardball and refuse to play there. In my opinion, the Titans would be the best fit for Young. Steve McNair will be back for at least 1 year which will give Young the necessary reps as a backup to gain the experience without getting clobbered. No matter where he goes, he will change the fortunes of the team he ends up going to.

Vincesanity Explodes for 42

Not only did Vince Carter score 42 points tonight, he scored the game winning 3 pointer with seconds on the clock to help the Nets beat his former Raptors team 105-104. The loss snaps a 5 game winning streak for the Raptors and extends the Nets streak to a season high 10. Everytime Carter comes back to Toronto, he's blows up for 30+ points and crushes the Raptors. A painful reminder of the good times of Half Man, Half Amazing dropping game winning 3s for the home team at the Air Canada Center. In other NBA news, Kobe dropped 50 points yesterday beating cross-town rival Clippers. The Knicks win 3 in a row, people are talking about a Stephon Marbury resurgence in New York with Larry Brown at the helm. I'm not much of a Marbury fan and I personally believe the Knicks aren't going anywhere with him. Watch and weep Knicks fans, your team will miss the playoffs yet again.
